  • Our Mission

To connect people who are interested in canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding with others to explore, enjoy, and learn about the area's waterways in a friendly and safe environment. We hope to help people develop paddling skills, promote paddling opportunities, and improve access to water ways.

  • Our History

Nancy Brown-Koeller (President) of Shawano Pathways introduced the concept of creating a paddling group in the Shawano area to Leadership Shawano County in October of 2022. Four people stepped up to take on the project and the rest is history.

Paddling Norms

Wisconsin & National:

USCG Personal Floatation Device on your boat, every paddle. Children under 13 must wear one at all times. A sound-making device like a whistle in case of an emergency. A white light visible from 360 degrees if paddling in reduced visibility or from sunset to sunrise.

Shawano Paddlers:

Don't go solo, always take a buddy! Dress for the weather and water temperature, NOT the air temperature. Be visible, reflective, and bright! Pack a safety kit (sunscreen, bug spray, water, pocketknife, and a snack.) Purchase a dry bag for you cellphone. Let someone know if you head back/leave the group before the end of a paddle. Who, What, When, Where -- let someone know your plans and check-in with them before and after your paddle.

Etiquette:

Respect other boaters on the water. Yield to larger boats and give way to oncoming boats. Be aware of yourself and others.

Have fun!
